Chair Finishes

All of our chairs are finished with at least two coats of the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. milk paint, a non-toxic finish that is very similar to the paint used back in the 17th and 18th centuries. It has proven to be a very durable finish and we offer it in 20 different colors.

Standard Finish
This finish consists of two coats of hand applied milk paint, hand rubbed after each application. We then apply two coats of Danish Oil, also rubbed down after each application to protect the paint.

Single Color Antique Finish
We begin this finish by aging the bare wood and then hand applying two coats of milk paint. On this finish we rub a portion of the new layer through to the previous layer giving the chair a worn look. The paint is then protected with our antiquing process which further imparts an aged look.

Multiple Color Antique Finish
This finish follows the same steps as the Single Color Antique Finish except we apply one coat each of three different colors of milk paint. We rub a portion of each new layer through to the previous layer. This allows all three colors to show through giving the impression of an old chair that has been painted several times. The chair is then protected with our antiquing process which also contributes to the aged look.
